Gunnedah’s Energy Innovation Mining Expo (EIMEX) has been postponed until October 2021 due to COVID-19.

The event would ordinarily have been held in October this year, but in late April, the committee had decided to move it to March 2021 because of the COVID lock-down.

After the second wave hit, committee chair Rob Hooke said they recently made the decision to forgo the rescheduled event because it was “too risky”. Event planning will go on hold until next year.

“We’re putting the whole thing into hibernation until March next year, until it looks more favourable,” he said. Mr Hooke said suppliers were “reluctant to send people out into the field” and there was a “definite likelihood” that exhibitors’ funding could be reduced as well.

“It’s far better to have no event than to have a much-reduced event,” he said.

The committee had sponsors on board and a number of new exhibitors, all of whom have been offered refunds in light of the situation.

EIMEX was first held in 2018 and is hosted by the Gunnedah Show Society in the showground.
