ORGANISERS of Gunnedah’s first ever energy, innovation and mining expo were pleased with the “buzz” surrounding the event’s first day.
Exhibitors flooded into the Gunnedah Showgrounds on Thursday to claim their place at the industry showcase with some travelling from as far away as Western Australia.
“A lot of them have been very impressed with the facilities we have in place here at the Gunnedah Showgrounds and the overall feeling around the event.
“I think that is a great thing because if the exhibitors are enjoying themselves then I think visitors will enjoy themselves too.”
Kicking off the day’s proceedings was a women in the workforce breakfast, featuring four industry-leading guest speakers.
“The breakfast was just brilliant,” Mr Hooke said.
“We weren’t too sure what to expect in terms of numbers but we ended up having a packed house.
“It was so good to see so many people turn out to see some fabulous speakers.
“Truly, it was the perfect way to start this expo.”
Mr Hooke said days two and three of the expo were “shaping up to be even better”.
“There is still so much to look forward to during this expo,” he said.
“On Friday we will be having a speech from Senator Matt Canavan, which I think will be really beneficial for everyone.
“As well as that, we will also be having some Gunnedah High School students coming through during the afternoon.
“To me that is so important because it’s a really good chance for the kids to see what is out there and what each of these industries are like.”
“Saturday will see visitors have the chance to have a guided tour of Whitehaven Coal’s Maules Creek Coal Mine.
“The tours will certainly be a highlight of the day, as will hearing from Barnaby Joyce about the Australian economy.”
Gates open at 9am.
